Munenori Kawasaki is coming back to the Toronto Blue Jays.
The club will place outfielder Melky Cabrera on the 15-day DL with tendonitis in his left knee, making room on the roster for the fan favourite.
Kawasaki was optioned to triple-A Buffalo following the Blue Jays’ 5-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday.
Before being optioned, the 32-year-old shortstop brought energy to a struggling team and helped the Blue Jays to a club-record tying 11-game winning streak that got them back in playoff contention after a disastrous start to the season.
In 60 games with the club, Kawasaki hit .225 with one home run, 17 RBIs, and seven steals.
The @BlueJays place MELKY CABRERA on the 15-day DL with left knee tendonitis. MUNENORI KAWASAKI will be recalled from @BuffaloBisons (AAA).
